That is really my biggest problem with the lineup.

Don't get me wrong I would have loved Pena in the middle of the order but he doesn't fix the long term problem which should be priority number 1. I did not suggest merely standing pat but looking for a future 1B if one can't be found by opening day I am OK with a Jones/McGehee platoon. As for Lee I was for him at first but I think a platoon will match his production and at this point I'll take the draft pick.

As for the catcher position my problem is I don't see anything good coming from the Barajas/McKenry/Morales trio. I like Eric Fryer but I think it is apparent the Pirates do not. If I was confident Fryer would be given a legit chance to earn a call up by say June adding another catcher would not even cross my mind.

As for the pitcher I just want another arm. It is my opinion a team should start the season with 8 "serviceable" starters. Now mind you my serviceable level here isn't high and I am giving the Pirates credit for 6. I am also willing to give them a 7th for the Owens/McPherson/Locke trio. But that still leaves them one short. In my opinion Webb is done but I don't mind the thinking if they would go for it bringing in Rich Harden would be my preference but adding another always injured arm worries me so I went a safer route with Francis.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
